12-3 Minkebe camp

Minkebe camp came into being more than 15 years ago after the discovery of gold. It is not a village, but rather a typical colony of temporary fortune seekers from many African countries. If gold is found it is sold to Arabic traders and the money earned is mostly spent on the alcohol that is readily available. We remained for a day so that Jean-Pierre Pobalas, who keeps en eye on things for the WWF, could tell us about the gold prospecting.. The locals in the team would have liked to have stayed on for for a few extra days.
