2-3 To Makokou

On Saturday we went to Boue by train and from there by minibus to Makokou - 16 hours travelling (we flew back in 1 hour). In the bar carriage next to our compartment, everyone was paralytic from the packs of wine and the atmosphere became worse and worse as the journey continued. Drunken soldiers were the worst. The one who noticed us first called out, 'ah, nous avons des cochons a bord' (ah, we have pigs on board). For those who didn't know it, there are also swear words for white skinned people. In Boue the connecting bus was filled up immediately. It took a couple of hours to find another bus and particularly to find sufficient passengers to enable us to continue to Makokou that same afternoon.
