13-3 Konossoville

Yesterday the route finally turned to the east! Thus we were in the forest once again and had picked up a track - actually a hunters path. It was full of snares.

Today we kept following the track and after 1.5 hours steady tramping we came across a forestry road again. The men started to laugh. They thought that it was the same road that we had left yesterday morning. Look it also goes through here? I could not be bothered to explain it further. [It could have been possible, but then we would have had to have made a detour of around 20 km] Konossoville is still 7 km. away.

An old man with a smart president Bongo shirt came up to meet us. He turned out to be the mayor and he welcomed us. In his house the bottles of warmish Regab I had promised were produced. The chief himself preferred to drink wine. The villagers turned up, shook our hands and drank with us. The first Regab in 4 weeks went down quickly, even though it was a bit warm and 0.6 litres. Thus the second quickly followed and the spirits improved accordingly.

We rang Owono via a satellite link and heard that a WWF land cruiser would come to pick us up. We were in an excellent mood - that evening we were going to sleep once more in our hotel Mvet in Oyem!
