Leaving Makokou

Didier, the logistics man of the WWF, collects us at Hotel Belingua. We are going to the market to do some last minute shopping, Fons is explaining, Patsy and Diana are ready to go for it.
The landing-stage for the boats on the Ivindo river is also begin used as a laundry. The washing-machine, lying on its side, has gotten a second life, this time serving as a scrubbing-board, again some sort of washing-machine.
The pirogue (canoo) with which we sail, looks small at first sight, but is able to take at least 12 people and their luggage. 3 guides are accompanying us, Michel, Raoul and Patrick (all standing in the picture). The latter we know of one of our previous expeditions and is a helmsman as well as a guide.
